Privacy Mask
What is it?
The privacy masking process works like encryption, giving you peace of mind when releasing data. It lets businesses extract insight from data that is normally considered too sensitive to release, even with an NDA.
We are happy to work under NDAs, but proud to go further and offer privacy-by-design. This lets you send important information with confidence, knowing that no sensitive data will ever be released to a third party.
How does it work?
1. Mask the data using a free tool that can be downloaded here. The output is shown below.
2. Send the masked data for analysis using one of the products. You’ll then receive the analysis report.
3. Load the original data onto the right tab within the file. This acts like a key, un-masking the results.
What does it look like?
The following section demonstrates the tool in action. The underlying pattern has been preserved, but no valuable information can be extracted by even the most tenacious analyst, thanks to the masking process.
The raw dataset is shown above. Row items, column headers and individual cell values are all visible.
Below is the masked dataset. Row items and column headers have been replaced by generic labels. Individual cell values have been adjusted, to preserve the original pattern while obscuring sensitive data.
Columns 1, 7 and 8 demonstrate how the relative values have been preserved during the masking process.
